Panchkarma is Ayurveda's primary purification and detoxification treatment. Panchkarma means the "five therapies”. These 5 therapies help to eliminate toxins or impurities away from the body. Panchkarma helps in eliminating of disharmony creating excessive imbalanced or vitiated DOSHAS in the body. These 5 therapeutic means of eliminating toxins from the body are Vamana, Virechana, Nasya, Basti, and Raktamoskshana. This series of 5 therapies help remove deep-rooted stress & illness-causing toxins from the body while balancing the DOSHAS (Energies that govern all biological functions). Several modalities in the Ayurveda detoxification procedure use non-toxic, lipophilic materials, such as clarified butter in the oleation phase and herbalized sesame oil in the massage and enema treatments. These traditional methods are believed to sequentially loosen and remove lipid-soluble toxicants from their deposited sites and stimulate their elimination.


Panchkarma Diet   

Panchkarma is ineffective if a special detoxification diet is not given along with the treatments. Special consideration for DIET should be taken with every person undergoing Panchkarma therapy. Vamana is a medicated emesis therapy helps in removing Kapha toxins accumulated in the body and the respiratory tract. This is given to persons with excesses vitiliated (imbalanced) Kapha. Daily treatment involves loosening and mobilizing the toxins in an effort to finally eliminate them.

Virechana (Purgation)
Virechana is medicated purgation therapy which removes Pitta toxins from the body that are accumulated in the liver and gallbladder; it completely cleanses the gastro-intestinal tract. It is a safe procedure without side effects. 

Benefits of Virechana in following ailments-It help to root out Chronic Fever, Headaches, Diabetes, Asthma, Skin disorders such as Herpes, Paraplegia, Hemiplegia, Joint disorders, Digestive disorders, Constipation, Hyperacidity, Vitiligo, Psoriasis, Elephantiasis, and Gynecological disorders.

Basti (Enema or Colonic Irrigation)
Basti (Enema) is considered as the mother of all Panchkarma treatments since it cleanses the accumulated toxins from all the 3 doshas, Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, through the colon. Basti is also highly beneficial as a rejuvenating treatment. Medicated oil or ghee and an herbal decoction are given as enema to clean the colon and increase the muscle tone. This procedure is usually applied for 8 to 30 days, based on the medical condition of a person. 

Benefits of Basti in following ailments-Hemiplegia, Paraplegia, Colitis, Convalescence, Cervical Spondylitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Constipation, Digestive disorders, Backache & Sciatica, Hepato & Splenomegaly, Obesity, Piles, and Sexual Debility & Infertility.

Nasya (Nasal Therapy)
Nasya involves administration of medicated oil, herbal powders or medicated decoction through nostrils to cleanse accumulated Kapha toxins from the head and neck region. Based on the medical condition of a person, it can be given up to 30 days. 

Nasya benefits in Trigeminal Neuralgia, Bel's Palsy, Improves memory & eyesight, Insomnia, stress. It is especially recommended for head, neck and upper arm disorders. Hyperpigmentation on the face, Pre-mature graying of hair, alopecia(Hair fall) clarity to voice, Headaches of various origin, Hemiplegia, Loss of smell and taste, Frozen shoulder, Migraine, Stiffness of the neck, Nasal Allergies, Nasal Polyp, Neurological dysfunctions, Paraplegia, Sinusitis. Strengthens the physiology of the sensory organ.


Raktamokshana (Blood Letting)
Raktamokshana is a procedure to cleanse the blood and is advised only in very rare conditions. It is not advisable during general Panchkarma.
